Speakers

Christen Bradbury, BS, CTRS, CCLS: Christen Bradbury is a Recreation Therapist and Child Life Specialist currently living in Valencia, Spain. She was introduced to the burn community in 2011 when she began working as the Senior CTRS/CCLS at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Boston. During that time she became involved in programming at organizations such as HandReach and Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, and held various volunteer, committee, and contracting roles since.  After her move overseas in 2015, she took on the role of lead facilitator and consultant in the Phoenix UBelong program, and is now acting as the program coordinator/consultant for the new Phoenix Youth and Family Program. Christen's expertise and passion is reflected in the various community reintegration programs she has developed over the years, including the Team Brave program at Shriners in Boston. 


Alexis Castro, CCLS: Alexis has been a Certified Child Life Specialist for sox years, with experience working in numerous Level 1 trauma centers. Alexis has worked in the Community Regional Leon S. Peter’s Burn Center for the last four years helping pediatric patients and their families cope through the burn care experience. In addition, Alexis manages the school re-entry program and youth and teen support groups. Alexis also shares her knowledge and experience working with groups such as the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation and the Phoenix UBelong program at Phoenix WBC.  She holds a Master’s in Child Life from Bank Street College of Education and a Certified Trauma Practitioner certification from Starr Commonwealth. 


Jessica Irven, MS, LRT/CTRS, CCLS, CTP-C: As the Program Manager of Education and Personal Development, I work closely with our supportive and young adult programming and educational resources. I am a Certified Child Life Specialist and Licensed/Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with a Certified Trauma Practitioner-Clinical credential. Jessica’s background includes over 20 years of program delivery, including supportive and therapeutic programming and resources for those impacted by illness and injury. She has served in hospital settings including burn centers and pediatric aftercare as well as workshops for young adults, families, burn camps, and retreats, both in the U.S. and abroad. Jess also has nearly two decades of combined community and nonprofit work behind her, including developing Phoenix Society’s Young Adult Peer Mentor and Phoenix Fellowship programs. Since last fall, her endeavors have included co-creation and co-facilitation of interactive virtual education and support course sets, weekly virtual support groups for adults, and weekly virtual groups for youth+family members. 


Nicole Perry, BA, CCLS: Nicole is a Certified Child Life Specialist who began her career working with the burn population at Shriners Hospital for Children in 2004. Subsequently she went on to work as the Youth and Family Program Manager and Peer Support Program Manager at Phoenix Society where her impact included leading the organization’s Phoenix UBelong Youth and Family Program. Nicole is currently serving in a volunteer role as a co-facilitator for weekly youth and family virtual programming groups.  Recent publication of Sara’s STEPS, a book for preschool and elementary-aged children to increase social confidence after burn and traumatic injury. 


Kristen Quinn, CMHC, CCLS: Kristen Quinn has worked in burn care at the University of Utah Health Burn Center since 1993. Her roles have included Child Life Specialist, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and Psychosocial Program Coordinator. She helped to develop the Phoenix UBelong Program with Phoenix Society, for their Phoenix World Burn Conference, and has held several positions at the conference. Kristen was a key player in the creation of the psychosocial programing at the U Health Burn Camp Programs, has been a part of the U Health Burn Camp Programs since 1993.  She is now the director of the five programs as well as yearlong programing.


Sadie Wilcox, MFA: Sadie is a California-based artist, art educator, and burn survivor, who has documented her own recovery process through the arts. For the past twelve years, Sadie has worked as an Artist in Residence in the Child Life & Creative Arts Therapy department at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. She volunteers as Director of Arts & Crafts at Champ Camp and has served on the board of directors at the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. Her recent writing has been published in the Burn Support Magazine, the Association of Child Life Professionals Bulletin, and the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association.
