June 22 | Coming Home to Your Heart (A Spiritual Health Support Group) with Cathy Morton
Coming Home to Your Heart is a trauma-informed group for burn survivors navigating the visible and invisible impacts of trauma, including moments when it may feel like you’ve been pulled away from yourself, your body, or your sense of peace. This space is about gently reconnecting with yourself at your own pace and centering spiritual health as a personal, evolving relationship with meaning, inner safety, self-compassion, breath, body, quiet, purpose, or belonging—whatever that may look like for you. There is no single way to understand spirituality here, and all experiences and interpretations are welcome. You are always in control of how much you share, there is no expectation to tell your story, your boundaries will be respected, and each gathering will move slowly, with care, and without pressure to fix or change anything. Together, we may explore themes like safety, self-trust, grief, resilience, and compassion through gentle grounding practices, guided reflections, and optional sharing—not as problems to solve, but as experiences to hold with care. Burn trauma can impact not only the body, but also identity, relationships, and the sense of home within yourself; this group creates space to acknowledge that reality while making room for connection, softness, and possibility. At its core, this group is a reminder that your body deserves kindness, your experiences—spoken and unspoken—are valid, healing does not have to be rushed or linear, and there is still a place within you that can feel like home. You do not need to arrive feeling ready, have the right words, or be “healed.” You are invited to come exactly as you are and take part in whatever way feels safest for you.
Cathy Marie Morton, at the age of 4, survived third-degree burns over 80% of her body, enduring 19 graft operations. After, she became a survivor of domestic violence at the hands of her father for 20 years. Her determination to survive and heal allowed her to recover and be led on a path to heal others, becoming a Reiki Master, life force harmonizer, and emotional alchemy specialist. She merged her metaphysical knowledge and survivor stories in her book "A Healer Forged in Fire."

The group is focused on peer-to-peer support for survivors and loved ones. It is facilitated by staff and emotional support providers connected to Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. Active participation from Phoenix SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) trained volunteers will be included, and conversation by all participants will make support grow for all present!
