Phoenix Society is dedicated to amplifying the stories of the burn community – and it all starts with a story. Open Mic provides an emotionally safe and confidential space for members of the burn community to share stories and experiences. Open Mic will not be recorded, so make sure you attend this session live.
Believe In Your Own Potential
Friday @ 11 am EST with Dr. BJ Miller
Dr. BJ Miller is a physician who understands firsthand the experiences of a burn injury. An electrical accident during his college years resulted in the amputation of three limbs and nearly killed him. Today, BJ uses his personal journey to help others own their limitations and find meaning in every day through creativity, a sense of belonging, and connection.

Phoenix World Burn Congress is the world's largest gathering of burn survivors, their families, burn care professionals, and the fire service industry. The event is hosted by Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, the leading national nonprofit supporting burn survivors.
This year's Phoenix WBC will be held in National Harbor, Maryland, from October 4 - 7, 2023. Burn survivor and former NHL player Aaron Volpatti will be headlining the event with his mainstage presentation on Thursday. Aaron has a truly inspiring story of overcoming a tremendous amount of adversity. His hockey career, post-secondary studies, and personal experiences led Aaron to develop his unique practice. Today, he is dedicated to teaching others how to find their true grit through visualization.
Another event you will want to attend is Open Mic, which will be held multiple times throughout the conference. Open Mic provides an emotionally safe and confidential space for our community to share stories and experiences. Additionally, we're excited to host TEN different learning sessions so the burn community can find the tools, support, and resources they need on their unique journeys.
