Luciana Hamilton shares her burn survivor story in Phoenix Society's Virtual Open Mic.
“One day you will tell your history of how you overcame what you went through and it will be someone else survival guide."
On January 14, 2010, I was in a propane explosion in Florida. When I come to the hospital they advised my family that I will only have a 1 percent of chance of survival. I was in a coma for a month! I’m very blessed that my family from Brazil were able to stay with me for a little while. After my accident I was feeling lonely, low confident, struggling with PTSD and I couldn’t accept my scar. I had to learn how to do my dressing changes. My burn doctor told me about the Phoenix society. It is a wonderful organization and I learned a lot with the other Burn Survivors how to overcome. I’m very blessed and grateful to have a chance to meet other burn survivors.
Sometimes the best view comes after the hardest climbs. It has been 12 years since my burn injury. I’m more confident and PTSD-free. I just start an Instagram that I want to tell my history in order to help other people. I can tell you the burn injury made me a better person, I can overcome everything in life cause I’m like a Phoenix bird.
