Marathon Petroleum joins growing list of Phoenix Society Partners

Written on March 02, 2021

Marathon Petroleum was the latest corporation to join the growing list of Phoenix Society Corporate partners. The contribution was spearheaded by Susan Sievert, Co-Chair of the Denver MPLX Give Back, Give Together Committee.

Susan was introduced to Phoenix Society after her son, Nick, suffered a scald injury resulting in third degree burns. Nick was treated at the University of Colorado Burn Center in Denver where Nick’s case manager gave their family a copy of the latest Burn Support Magazine and connected them with Phoenix SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery).  Within a month of his injury, Nick was connected with fellow burn survivor during a virtual Phoenix SOAR visit and the family had attended a Virtual Support Group.

Nick had so much hope after meeting with another survivor. He was so motivated after just one visit.”

When it came time for Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) and MPLX to give back, Susan had no hesitation in recommending Phoenix Society to receive a gift. MPLX is a diversified, large-cap master limited partnership formed by MPC that owns and operates midstream energy infrastructure and logistics assets that provide fuel distribution services. Each MPC and MPLX region has its own local giving committee as part of their philanthropy efforts.

MPLX accepts gift recommendations in order to support organizations that have a connection to the communities they serve. After learning about Susan and Nick’s journey, MPC generously gave a donation to Phoenix Society. By supporting our movement, MPC is helping to advance lifelong healing, optimal recovery, and burn prevention for those around the world.
