Susan L. Smith, PhD, APRN, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, RNFA, WCC, FAANP

Susan began her career in nursing as a student assigned to a burn unit. She has continued to care for burn-injured patients of all ages, becoming a nurse practitioner in 1998 and completing her PhD in 2017. Her active clinical practice includes the inpatient, outpatient, and perioperative burn care. She is nationally board certified in Wound Care, Family Practice and Acute Care and has published manuscripts on a variety of topics, presenting locally, nationally, and internationally. Susan is a devoted full time burn nurse practitioner and surgical first assist, clinical preceptor, and adjunct faculty for Doctor of Nursing Practice students. She serves the American Burn Association as National Teaching Faculty for advanced burn life support and as an elected member of their national research committee. Her passion for burn care extends to volunteer service as a visiting burn nurse educator for an international charitable organization, traveling around the world to help improve quality of burn care and patient outcomes.
