Joe Morgan is a retired Lieutenant Firefighter in Washington D.C.; his wife Kim is a Business Intelligence Development Manager. Joe and Kim have been married for 18 years and have a blended family of four adult children and five grandchildren. They first met as children while attending a private elementary school where they shared classes in the early 70’s. They kept in touch and remained friends while Kim was away in college and while Joe served in the Navy.
The two reconnected and initiated a relationship in 1997, then ultimately married in October 2005. But in 1999 tragedy struck their lives. While still dating, Joe was severely burned over 65% of his body fighting a two-alarm townhouse fire, which took the lives of two brother firefighters. Joe fought hard for his life and Kim stood by his side throughout the ordeal and was a huge support in his emotional and physical recovery.
Joe and Kim have been supporting burn survivors and their family members since the early 2000’s, such as the 911 Pentagon survivors through the Washington Hospital Center Burn Center. They became SOAR Peer Supporters in 2010 and Joe is a member of the DC Burn Foundation. They are leaders in ministry at their church and enjoy missionary work and meeting new people
