Some of the walkers battled back against amazing odds:
Karen from Chelmsford who was 9-months pregnant and was severely burned on Valentines Day while cooking at the stove. While in intensive care at MGH, she managed to give birth and save herself and also her unborn child despite incredible odds.
Mike from Westford finds himself trapped in his truck on. With flames and smoke consuming the truck within seconds, this burn survivorfound the will survive and now himself provides support to burn survivors he has never even met before.
David from Cambridge who spent 3-months in the hospital, including 6-weeks in a coma after suffering intense burns and smoke inhalation proved his skeptics wrong by backpacking and hiking through 272 miles of terrain in Vermont.
George from Nashua, NH who's body was 85% burned after a gas explosion at his home. George has gone on and written a book about his experiences which chronical his story of rebirth and survival.
These are the true stories. Stories from people that walk among us in the Boston area.

SECOND ANNUAL BURN SURIVIOR WALKATHONRAISES OVER $27,000 FOR BURN SURVIVORSPhotos from the walkathonA sunny and crisp fall day in New England provided a spectacular backdrop for the 2nd annual Phoenix-Society for Burn Survivors Walkathon that was held on Sunday, September 14th in Boston, Massachusetts. The event was a huge success thanks to more than 125 people who took part in the walk which included survivors, their families, friends, family, and medical professionals from Boston area hospitals. Over $27,000 was raised during the event which also included a post walk luncheon where all those who participated were able to gather and enjoy each other's company. Monies raised will directly benefit survivors through Phoenix-Society programs. While there are many, many people to thank who volunteered their time to make the walkathon possible, we would like to say thank you to Steve Turley from the Boston Fire Department Burn Foundation who was extremely helpful in providing Boston Fire equipment and firefighters. The Phoenix Society would also like to recognize George Pessotti and David Vogel for their hard work and dedication in organizing the walk again this year. In addition, Mike Paganelli, WalkSite Manager, Carol Civetta, Karen Labonte, Bob Feeney, Kim McDonough, and Pam Giusti who were part of the outstanding volunteer committee. In addition, the Phoenix-Society would also like to say thank you the medical staff from Brigham & Women's Hospital, Mass. General Hospital, Boston Shriners Hospital, and all the other medical professionals and those in fire service who every day contribute to the physical and emotional recovery of burn survivors. A special thank goes out to Ellen Ezorsky and also the team captains from the participating hospitals--Sally Morton from Mass. General Hospital, Lisa Donovan from Shriners and Elaine Devine for Brigham and Women's. Thank you again to all who had a part and made the walkathon a success! See you next year!
